EMPLOYMENT LAWS &
REGULATIONS
If you have employees or plan to hire employees, you MUST consider
the legal implications of the laws and regulations governing
employment. These laws are many and complicated and you should
seek the assistance of competent legal counsel to help you in this
area. To gain an overview of these issues, you should attend our
workshop entitled “People
Management”.
Consider the fact that there are regulations regarding:
- the information you are
legally allowed to ask a prospective employee
- discrimination against older
employees, women, the disabled, minorities and more
- the termination of employees
- the treatment of pregnant
employees
- the compensation of employees
- responsibility when hiring
immigrants
- medical leave of absence, and
more!
You can gain some idea of the complexity of
the matter by reading or downloading (the latter is suggested) a
very good article published by the SBA at their web site at:
www.sba.gov/library/pubs/equalemployguide.pdf
This is an area that has caused much grief for many companies
charged with malpractice regarding harassment, discrimination,
compensation and more!
